It was at Kanya Kumari in Tamil Nadu that Swami Vivekananda got his
inspiration to preach Hinduism across the seven seas.

And Yogi Aurobindo chose the Tamil bhoomi of Pondicherry for his
sadhana.

In the ancient times it was from the coast of this land that sage Agasti
led Hindu preachers to far away places and people on planet Earth.

Now once again Tamil Nadu is in news. It is showing the way to achieve
social justice and samrasata (integration). It all started after Vishva
Hindu Parishad, Tamil Nadu had taken a whirlwind rath-yatra of warrior
god Kartikeyan and Sheetala Mata around the state in 1984. It created a
new awakening in the Hindu society. Youth from all sections of the
society, particularly the scheduled castes, came forward in a large way
to become temple priests and lead the Hindu masses. VHP organised
special training camps f or them. Till now more than 1000 priests have
been trained. On March 9, 1995, it held a state convention of temple
priests in which over 10,000 priests from rural areas participated. Last
September, the Parishad arranged Lord Vinayak poojan in almost every
village of the state. It is a tribute to VHP workers' untiring efforts
that the 'backward caste' priests today are the most revered preachers
of Sanatan (eternal) values of Hindu Dharma in the state. Within a
small span of 12 years the VHP has helped the once atheist Tamil state
transform into that of believers!
