Title: ISI-supported terrorism

For over ten years ISI-supported terrorists from across the
border have been indulging in murder and mayhem in Jammu &
Kashmir and lately in Himachal Pradesh as well. Earlier the same
gangsters were supporting the misguided Khalistanis in East
Punjab to cause unbearable damage in the countryside. It is no
secret that the ISI was directly supported by the CIA. Originally
the CIA had given its support to the Taliban in an effort to
dislodge Soviet forces from Afghanistan to prevent Moscow from
having access to the warm waters of the Indian ocean and the
Arabia Sea.

Terrorists were trained in the latest weaponry and were fully
equipped to meet any contingency. They were liberally supplied
with the latest state-of-the-art arms. When India complained,
Washington turned a deaf ear. With the withdrawal of the Soviet
Union from Afghanistan, terrorist camps were saturated with arms
with terrorists themselves at a loose end Pakistan promptly set
out to make use of these unemployed gangsters.

They were pushed into the Kashmir valley where, in the last ten
years, over 20,000 innocent men, women and children have been
killed in cold blood. Their blood is on the hands of successive
American Presidents and Secretaries of State. India suffered the
agony silently - almost helplessly. One can fight Pakistan, but
how can one fight Pakistan's godfather from across the seas? Then
it happened, as it was bound to happen. The same terrorists who
have been paid by the United States have now turned against their
benefactor in the least-expected region: Kenya and Tanzania.
Hardly a dozen Americans were killed in the bomb attacks on US
embassies as against 20,000 Indians so far killed by the US paid
terrorists.

American reaction was as ridiculous as it was swift. When the
bodies of the ten Americans arrived in Paris on their way to the
United States. Secretary of State Medeleine Albright was there to
receive them with tears in her previously dry eyes. In the United
States, at the ceremony of interning the bodies president
Clinton, too, was reported having moist eyes. Very dramatic.
Clinton and Albright had no tears for the 20,000 innocent Indians
who were murdered in cold blood. But their tears flowed copiously
for ten of their own countrymen. That speaks for their humanity.

Then consider this: just about a hundred days ago, when Home
Minister L K Advani in a moment of deep exasperation threatened a
ro-active policy against terrorism in Kashmir and possible
ot-pursuit into Pakistani territory, to which, in such
circumstances, any country is entitled to, an American spokesman
warned India against it claiming that it could oolishly and
dangerously increase tensions with its neighbours.

The message was that India should not hurt America's portage in
South Asia. Now the chicken are coming home to roost. The
terrorists, long supported by American dollars. American arms and
American equipment are now turning against America. And what has
been America's reply? Washington, in utter fear, withdrew
American staff from Pakistani was waters and despatched over
seven cruise missiles into Afghan territory to destroy terrorist
camps which once were paid for and set up by American money. This
is what is called divine retribution. Incidentally, it was from
these very camps that terrorists were being sent to Jammu &
Kashmir to do their dirty work. At that time America pretended
not to see. Now it is being shown - and how!

There is a saying that those who live by the sword will perish by
the sword. And those who live by terrorism will perish by
terrorism. America is too large to perish. And it is a super
power equipped with super weapons that can hit a target 1,700 kms
away with a accuracy of 12 metres. But the United States is
mistaken if it believes that the terrorists it once took to its
ample bosom can fight back. They will. No embassy of the United
States in Muslim countries or in the countries of Africa will be
save. It should cause no surprise if US embassies even in
countries like Britain and France are bombed by Islamic
terrorists.

It is only then that the US will begin to appreciate the hell
that India has gone through. Consider also this: The Pakistani
people have been roused. They have not only burnt the American
flag, they have also burnt effigies of President Clinton. And
these are the very people that the US had religiously nurtured,
for half a century. The temptation is to say: serves you right,
but unlike the Pakistanis and the officials who make policy in
the state and defence department in Washington, we are a
civilised people. We Indians want to see terrorism tackled
effectively because no matter how much one may enjoy the
embarrassment caused to Washington, international terrorism can
be turned against India as well and we must hold back our
laughter.

It can be argued that American reaction has been out of
proportion. If America could despatch 75 cruise missiles against
a terrorist camp for the killing of 10 Americans, arithmetically,
how many missiles must India despatch against Pakistan for
killing over 20,000 Indians citizens? Has Washington ever thought
of that? This is not said idly.

As one journal noted, ndia's sense of outrage after innocent
people are massacred in say, Doda, the is not qualitatively
inferior to any American grief following the recent bombings in
Africa. India has paid grievously for the outrageous Americans
support to Pakistani terrorists. The first thing that Washington
must do is to insist that Pakistan disband all terrorist camps,
including the Jamiat-ul-Mujahideen commanded by Mufti Bashir who
has been training people almost exclusively to create havoc in
Jammu & Kashmir. Admittedly the US practises double standards.
But of that enough is enough. The US should have a sense of
shame, which it is obvious, it hasn.

The US will see its flag burnt, the effigy of its president set
on fire and its embassy in Islamabad attacked, but it will
continue to disparage India and hit it below the belt. America's
attitude towards India is incomprehensible and illogical. But
that is Washington's business. If it wants to make an ass of
itself, nobody can help it. India has never retaliate in the same
measure. But now the US is in serious trouble. It has invited the
wrath of the entire Islamic world. The US may aim a thousand
cruise missile against its forces but when a people are aroused
missiles are of little use.

America, no doubt, will soon resort to bribery - it may be just a
little too late. Just a short phone call from Washington and the
Pakistan government ate its own words about American missiles
killing six Pakistanis. But can a mere phone call handle the
Saudi billionaire Osama bin Laden who has sworn vengeance against
the infidels? America is getting its lessons and its is about
time it is taught a few things among others, not to play with
fire.
