Five people have been
killed and 36 others injured in separatist-related violence in Kashmir,
despite an ongoing unilateral ceasefire by the security forces, police
said Thursday.
Twenty-six people were
injured when suspected militants threw a grenade at bus stand in Kupwara
town, 100 kilometers (60 miles) north of Srinagar.
A police spokesman said
eight of those injured were in a critical condition.
Suspected militants also
hurled a hand grenade at a paramilitary police patrol near a bus stand
in Kishtiwar town, 200 kilometers (120 miles) south of Srinagar, injuring
eight people, including two police personnel.
They were removed to
hospital, where one civilian victim later died.
Three more people, including
two alleged Pakistani militants were killed in separate incidents in southern
Kashmir.
Meanwhile, police said
they had found the body of a cloth-trader from Punjab state in the militant-infested
area of Sangaldhan in southern Doda district overnight Wednesday.
The spokesman said the
trader was believed to have been killed by militants. Indian security
forces suspended operations against Muslim militant groups in Kashmir on
November 27.
