Introduction: There is hardly a
village in Kerala without a martyr for the Marxists. Apart from killing
political opponents, they also allow their won cadres to be killed by others
by creating favourable atmosphere. Instances are too many to be described.
Political intolerance of the CPM
to the political activism of the BJP in Kannur had culminated in many killings
including the one of a young, energetic and promising BJP youth leader,
K. T. Jayakrishnan two years back. Violence erupted again last December
when the CPM hooligans masterminded a murderous attack on the BJP cadres
who were returning after attending a mammoth rally today rich floral tributes
to their departed leader. The rally that attracted youth in unprecedented
numbers was addressed by BJP All India Secretary, Muqtar Abbas Naqvi, State
President C.K. Padmanabhan. State Secretary P.K. Krishnadas, Yuvamorcha
President M. T. Ramesh and a host of others. It sent alarm signals to the
Marxist quarters. Following it, the Marxists let loose a reign of terror
using mercenaries to commit acts of aggression of the BJP cadres. Without
losing self-control, the BJP offered stiff resistance to the Marxist onslaughts
against public life and property, which ended up with the death of six
persons and critical injuries to dozens. The Marxists in Kannur are following
the same path vigorously pursued by their Midnapur counterparts. Kannur
today is yet another Kurukshetra where the forces of Fascism and democracy
are pitted against each other.
The origin of political violence
in Kannur dates back to the early 1970's when the Marxist cadres clandestinely
planned and executed communal confrontation between Hindus and Muslims
in the heart of the Thalassery district. This was one of the several strategic
games played by them to establish their political empire in Malabar.
Since then, they have murdered as
many as 53 and incapacitated thousands of BJP workers and swayamsevaks.
This is in addition to several dozens belonging to other parties. It is
very significant to note that the intensity of Marxist aggression is highest
when they are in power. For instance, between 1980 and 1983 they have killed
26 BJP men and 17 during 1996-2000. The number of political murders by
the party during the last 30 years are well over a hundred. Therefore,
it is clear that the Marxist party not only encourages but also initiates
violence as an expansionist Fascist political strategy.
There is hardly a village in Kerala
without a martyr for the Marxists. Apart from killing political opponents,
they also allow their own cadres to be killed by others by creating favourable
atmosphere. Instances are too many to be described. Most of the killed
belonged to the poorest strata of society. Though majority of Marxists
cadres are drawn from such sections, very few are raised to top slots.
The utopian ideal of Socialism has been propagated as a 'do-or-die' like
goal and their poor cadres were happily treaded to the glorious path of
martyrdom. This culture has become part of a proven strategy of the party
to outmanoeuvre their adversaries. The cadres are being trained and tuned
to the mentality and a political culture based on it has been vigorously
patronised by the current ideologically pauperised leadership who badly
requires this culture to promote their ambitious political projects. It
is very unfortunate that the youth who rally behind the Red flag still
do not realise the extent to which they have been deceived by their leadership.
Elimination of potential political
opponents has been their foremost strategy and this is vigorously undertaken.
Identifying the target and executing the same is planned in minute details.
The status of those killed by the Marxist assailants testifies this fact.
Panniyannur Chandran (BJP District Secretary), K. T. Jayakrishnan (vice
president BJP Yuva Morcha), P. Balan (BJP Peringalam Mandalam treasurer)
and Sadanandan Master, whose both legs wore mutilated, (Jilla Sahkaryavah
of the RSS). They never tolerate any change of political allegiance even
by conscience, especially to BJP. This is instructive of the fact that
the Marxists who have been mercilessly exploiting the Hindus for several
decades are afraid of the growth of BJP, towards which their youths have
developed a natural affinity. A Marxist deserter would be confronted as
a class enemy and punishes with death. This is yet another strategy by
which the Kannur fortress of the Marxists is being protected. Those who
offer protection to the defector, which the BJP is doing, are also made
to feel the taste of Marxist inquisition.
Since its inception in Kannur some
sixty years ago, the Communist Party has been largely dominated by a group
of leaders from Kannur. A.K. Gopalan, E.K. Nayanar, P.V. Kunchi Kannan,
M.V. Raghavan, Pinarayi Vijayan, Patyam Gopalan, Chadayan Govindan, E.P.
Jayarajan, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and a host of others. These Marxist leaders
over the years have forcibly transformed the district into a major Marxists
borough by cleverly severing its connections with other parties and, philosophies,
men and movements and various channels and sources of information. They
were taken over by the belief that the people of Kannur have a natural
allegiance and responsibility to be always led by the Marxists. The proliferation
of the BJP and RSS vindicates and confirms the fact that for the people
of Kannur political allegiance is something which is renewable. Political
history of Kerala makes it abundantly clear that the people of Kannur had
always shifted their political allegiance from one party to another as
and when they deem it fit. At first, they married the non-violence preaching
Congress but divorced it when they found the Communist ideals of Socialist
society more rewarding. However, instead of Socialism, independence and
democracy, the Communist Party brought them more hardships. So, in no time,
they started dis-favouring this ideologically inert and. past masters of
manipulative politics also. Problems of unemployment, penury, social disruption,
economic backwardness, immoral political loomed large on their heads even
after many years of continuous propagation and practice of Communism. The
dream castle of Communism has finally been fallen down and has now been
looked down upon as a great myth of 20th century.
The history of the rise and growth
of the BJP and its affiliates in the district is a story of struggles by
the people to regain their political freedom usurped long ago by the Marxists.
No other party or political formation in the district, including the Congress
and Muslim League despite being in power, could defend them from the Marxist
aggressors. The BJP has therefore geared up itself to meet this challenge
and responsibility. This is being resented and violently resisted by the
Marxists using all armaments at their stockpile. It is being continuously
practised throughout the state by the Communist party as well as its affiliates
-DYFI, SFI, CITU and a whole lot of unions. For instance, the SFI has virtually
converted several colleges in the state into party colleges or the Red
forts of SFI as they fondly label them. The heinous act of branding the
acronym 'SFI' on the back of a Congress student wing leader at the prestigious
University College in Thiruvananthapuram is a typical example. The brutality
committed on the ABVP students of Parumala college, on a lady teacher of
Nettayam Polytechnic and agitations against the managements of SN college
(Kollam), St. Thomas' College (Thrissur), S.B. College (Changanassery)
etc. have little parallels elsewhere. That the Marxists are intolerant
even against animals is evident from the inhuman treatment meted out to
the animals of Pappinissery park their fault was that their owner was M.V.
Raghavan a former Marxist defector. Then, what to speak of people belonging
to other political parties or fronts. The CPM is not only fighting the
BJP but also the Congress, Muslim League, CPM and even a constituent communist,
the CPI.
In this process of extermination
of political adversaries, the police machinery in the state is being effectively
used. One of the 'historical' achievements of the second tenure of Nayanar
rule was the politicisation of the state police. Though both the UDF and
LDF have used the police to rein in political opponents, it reached its
zenith this time. The state police, known for its efficiency, has now been
cleverly divided on political lines. This has raised serious questions
concerning the integrity and honesty of the organisation in maintaining
law and order. Kannur is the best evidence, where the police is totally
inactive, inefficient and under the direct control of the ruling party.
The real culprits of Jayakrishnan's murder have not yet been arrested.
On the other hand, the police has arrested his gunman, the eye witness
to the murder, on various charges. Hundreds of BJP and RSS men are now
languishing in the jails as a result of this unholy nexus between the Marxists
and police. Those who cannot, will be shifted and shunted to some corners
like that of S.P. Mohammed Yasin whose fault was that he told the truth
bluntly the Dharmadam bomb explosion was the handiwork of the Marxists.
Kannur has finally been converted
into a battlefield where the rules of the game are framed in advance by
the Marxists-Kannur's country side should remain red, no matter what happens
to the people and party else where.
