NASIK: A Border Security Force jawan
was beaten up by enraged people after he allegedly hoisted a Pakistani
flag at a durgah in Nyaydongri village in Nandgaon tehsil of the district
on Thursday, police said on Friday.
The villagers also observed a bandh
to protest the anti-national action of the 23-year-old BSF jawan, who is
on leave from his present posting at Gilgit hills of Kupwara sector in
Jammu and Kashmir, police said.
Tension prevailed in the village
when people noticed a new green square flag with white half-moon and star
hoisted on the Hajrat Nathusha Baba Durgah instead of the usual green flag.
Police said the villagers gathered
near the durgah where the BSF jawan told them that he had unfurled the
flag. The enraged villagers then beat up the jawan and later handed him
over to police.
Police have registered an offence
against him under different sections of IPC and seized the flag.
Meanwhile, local Shiv Sena MLA Anil
Aher and senior police officials have urged the people to maintain peace.
