Truly following the footsteps of
his father, Sayed Abdullah Bukhari, who had described himself as an ISI
agent and dared the Government of India to arrest him, the new Imam of
Jama Masjid, Sayed Ahmed Bukhari has started making attempts to disturb
the communal harmony of the country. In a recent series of statements he
has called upon Muslims of the country to 'extend total support' to the
Saudi fugitive Osama bin Laden, the prime suspect in terrorist attacks
on US, in the jehad called by him. Using the word 'jehad' the Imam in his
speech before the Friday prayers said that the Muslims of the country are
duty-bound to help Laden in the jehad announced by him. 'If America attacks
Afghanistan, Muslims throughout the world would consider it an attack on
Islam and so they would not hesitate to sacrifice all they have in protection
of their religion.' Making a militant rhetoric, the Imam urged the gathering
to 'destroy the enemies of Islam." Describing Laden a "superpower" the
Imam claimed that the Muslims of the world are with him (Laden). "We do
not consider Laden a terrorist,' he said. The Imam warned the Government
of India that if India supports a US attack on Afghanistan, waves of backlash
would he inevitable in the country.
