Shrinagar, India, Oct 28 (AFP) -
Indian troops stormed a Kashmir mosque Sunday to flush out a Muslim militant
barricaded in the shrine since Saturday afternoon, police said.
Troops traded gunfire with the guerrilla
before entering the mosque in Panzan, near Chadoora town, 30 kilometres
(18 miles) east of Kashmir's summer capital Shrinagar, police said.
The lone militant was holed up between
the roof and top floor of the two-storey mosque, which was not damaged
in the operation, the police added.
Security forces had earlier tightened
a cordon around the mosque, one of the biggest in the region, but their
appeals to the barricaded guerrilla to surrender failed.
At least one militant entered the
mosque on Saturday after security forces laid siege to the village on information
that militants were present.
