Washington, Oct. 1. (PTI): An organisation
of Indians in the US has asked America, which has launched a global campaign
against terrorism, not to forget Pakistan's role in creating the Taliban
and its continued terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Association of Indians in America
(AIA) in a letter-writing campaign to persuade President George W Bush
and the Congress said "it is an established fact that the Taliban was created,
trained and equipped by the Pakistani Army, through its Inter Services
Intelligence (ISI) agency. The nexus between these two entities have continued
unabated..."
"The ISI has also used its resources
to unleash terrorist groups in India. It is also known that the activities
of the ISI and its terrorist minions are executed with the tacit approval
of the military government of Pakistan," the association, headed by Gopal
Khanna, said.
The association said
that to get rid of terrorism it was
necessary to;
-- "bring to justice
all those associated with the events of Sept. 11;
-- eliminate the Taliban and replace
it with a government that is representative of the aspirations
of all Afghans;
-- disarm all
terrorist groups in the region;
-- dismantle the capability of the
ISI to create and foster cross border terrorist groups;
-- ensure free elections
in Pakistan and the appointment of a democratically elected
government there".
