"The Ram temple movement purely belongs to saints and Hindu society. It has nothing to do with any political party. Now we are fully prepared to start the reconstruction work and it can begin any time after March 12, next year", said the Working President of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Shri Ashok Singhal. He was speaking at a function organised to celebrate his Amrit Mahotsava in Dehradun recently.

Shri Singhal warned that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also followed the path of other so-called secular parties, it would have no political future. "VHP never instructed its cadre to vote for the BJP. We had only appealed to the voters to support the party that takes up the cause of Hindus. Even now the reconstruction movement has nothing to do with the elections due in several States next year. Our programmes are fixed up in much advance and also according to the convenience of the saints," he explained.

The VHP heavyweight said that the Ram temple movement had become a matter of self-respect for 100 crore Hindus all over the world. They are agitated over the increasing attacks on Hindus in India by the jehadis and Christians. That is why the saints have taken up the issue in their hands and have decided to oppose religious conversions tooth and nail. The mass conversion of Hindus to Christianity is aimed at changing the existing religious set-up of the nation. We need to start extensive literacy campaign in the vanvasi and backward areas to foil the enemy's game plan.

Warning the forces that are making hue and cry over the saffronisation of India, Shri Singhal announced that no power of the world can prevent the saffronisation of India. "One who thinks of Hinduism will rule over this country," he said and came down upon those who feel ashamed of being called Hindu. About the Tehri Dam he reiterated that unless 50 per cent of the water of the Bhagirathi is allowed to flow freely, work on the dam would not be allowed. He dedicated all the mementos, awards, and citations presented to him so far, to the God. He pointed out that saints have started an extensive campaign to educate the Hindu society and also to make it ready for any kind of sacrifices, for the reconstruction of the temple.

Speaking on the occasion Chief Minister of Uttaranchal, Nityanand Swami said that Shri Singhal dedicated his whole life for the cause of Hindus. The society should learn the lesson of self-sacrificed patriotism from Shri Singhal. The prominent among those who were present on the occasion were S/Shri Pooran Chand Sharma, BJP president of Uttaranchal, Dr. Ramesh Pokheriyal Nishank, Finance Minister of the State, Devendra Singh Maan, Chairman of Doon International School.

Meanwhile, similar functions were also held at Chennai and Tiruchi in Tamil Nadu to celebrate the 75th birth anniversary of Shri Singhal. At the function held at Chennai prominent people from all walks of life attended the function and showered praise on Shri Singhal for his services to the Hindu society. At the function held at Tiruchi Shri Singhal launched the Jalabhisheka programme at the Jambukeshwar temple.

A similar function was also held in Hubli, West Bengal, where Shri Singhal called upon the countrymen to give more attention to the social causes along with their routine work and help in uplift of downtrodden. Earlier the local unit of Bajarang Dal took out a procession in which about 70,000 people participated to welcome Shri Singhal.
