Uproarious scenes were witnessed
early this morning in the Lok Sabha over some remarks about the army by
Mani Shanker Aiyar (Cong) which annoyed members of the treasury benches
who moved towards the well demanding apology from the member and subsequently
his removal.
The turmoil continued for almost
half-an-hour with ministers including Yashwant Sinha, George Fernandes,
Sushma Swaraj and Murli Manohar Joshi taking strong exception to the remarks
by Aiyar.
Deputy Speaker P M Sayeed after
going through the records asked the member to withdraw and apologise for
his remarks. Ruling party members were not satisfied with the member's
apology and demanded action against him.
A visibly annoyed deputy leader
of Congress Shivraj Patil was seen asking Aiyar to make amends.
Finally, Sayeed brought order to
the house which was involved in a marathon discussion on the opposition-sponsored
motion on Gujarat after which Home Minister L K Advani intervened in the
debate. (PTI)
