Militants on Sunday night targeted
the family of a police constable killing four persons near Surankote in
Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir late on Sunday, police sources said
on Monday.
The militants forced their entry
into the house of Mohammad Azad, assigned to the special operations group
(SOG) of the state police involved in counter insurgency operations, and
opened indiscriminate fire on the inmates, they said.
The cop's father, brother, nephew
and sister-in-law died on the spot while two children who received critical
injuries have been admitted to a hospital, they added.
Police and security forces immediately
rushed to the spot and searched the area for the culprits who managed to
escape under the cover of darkness, sources said.
No one has claimed responsibility
for the killings.
Assembly polls are due in Poonch
district on September 16.
PTI adds Meanwhile, security forces
gunned down four militants in an encounter in Kupwara district in north
Kashmir, a defence spokesman said in Srinagar on Monday.
He said the encounter took place
at Trehgam in the district late on Sunday night, which also led to the

Further details regarding the incident
are awaited, the spokesman added.
