Mrs. Rabri Devi, the Chief Minister
of Bihar, certainly has a flair for shooting her mouth off when things
get too complicated for her. Instead of showing any sympathy for the family
of the kidnapped victim, the CM, on the first day of the winter session
of the Assembly, said that the BJP MLA Pradeep Das was hiding his nephew
in his own home while fabricating the kidnapping story.
The statement brought the entire
opposition members in the state assembly on their feet who wanted the Chief
Minister to apologize for making such insensitive statement. Things got
so heated that the Speaker of the House Sadanand Singh had to adjourn the
Question Hour way ahead of its schedule.
Das' nephew was kidnapped from Purnia
on October 2 and still remains missing after nearly two months.
Lambasting the administration, the
leader of the Opposition and BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi said under Laloo-Rabri
rule, no one is safe including the MLAs and their family members.
Surprisingly. there was no mention
of the alleged abduction of Kanchan Mishra by the notorious criminal Sultan
Mian who is said to have performed 'nikah' with Mishra against her will.
One can reasonably understand the silence maintained by the Laloo-Rabri
government on the issue but the Bhartiya Janata Party's absolute mum on
the shameful event has almost been deafening to those who had been following
the story. Even on the streets of Patna, nobody seems to have heard the
story of Mishra's abduction leading many to doubt the authenticity of the
story. So far only Outlook India, a news magazine, has published the story.
