The City police today claimed to
have arrested nine activists of the Muslim Defence Force (MDF), including
a `key member' of the Force, who was allegedly involved in providing physical
training to its members.
A police release said a group of
militants, carrying explosives were arrested last month. On information
provided by them, a team lay in wait near the Central Railway Station on
Monday and nabbed Saifullah, Abdul Rahim, Alauddin, Mohammed Saleen, Mohideen
Abdul Kadar, Syed Ali, Tenkasi Alauddin, Mohamed Hassan and Sheik Abdul
Kadar.
Until a decade ago, Saifullah alias
Kannan was a member of the RSS and had even attended the organisation's
training sessions. After embracing Islam, he married a woman, who had converted
from Hinduism to Islam. Saifullah was a lieutenant of the MDF leader, Kayalpattinam
Hameed Pakkiri. He had provided physical training to its members and helped
the trainees attend secret meetings.
All the arrested were remanded to
judicial custody.
The arrest was made under the supervision
of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Pulianthope, S. Murugan.
The number of MDF members now in
custody had reached 20.
Eleven were arrested in the past
few weeks in different parts of the State.
