Honourable Sir:
Mayerdak (www.mayerdak.com) is a
newspaper brough out by the Hindu reactionaries in West Bengal. Its printed
version (printed in Bangla and English) has a circulation of approximately
20,000 prints and is becoming vastly popular among the semi-urban masses
especially those living in the border regions with Bangladesh.
This newspaper tries to vilify the
peaceful and friendly atmosphere existing between the Muslims and their
Hindu counterparts in different parts of Bengal, especially the border
areas by sensationalizing the so called atrocities and attacks on the Hindus,
especially the very few reported incidents of rape in Bangladesh. Most
of the contents are blatantly anti-Islamic and hateful to the Holy Quran.
It is my earnest request to you
and other secular minded leaders to take appropriate steps in curtailing
the misinformation being spread by this newspaper.
