The Hindu Aikya Vedi has alleged
that the State Government's decision to go soft on the Marad issue will
only embolden the fundamentalists to carry out further terrorist activities
in the State.
In a statement here today, the Vedi
general secretary, Kummanam Rajashekaran, also alleged that the Government's
refusal to submit the police intelligence reports on the Marad massacre
before the Judicial Inquiry Commission and to order a CBI probe into the
incident indicated that it wanted to hide the facts from the public.
"Besides, the Government's refusal
to divulge the details of legal opinion of the Advocate General whether
a CBI inquiry could be ordered into the incident is also mysterious. It
was almost six months after the Government reached a settlement between
the Muslim and Hindu leaders on the issue," he said.
The only option before the Government
to tide over the present crisis was to submit the police intelligence documents
before the Commission as well as order a CBI inquiry into the incident,
he added.
