Crime Branch claims that the Unani doctor
arrested in Mominpura, Byculla, was part of the terrorist group that actually
planned the July 11 bomb blasts. If true, he will be the first of the lot
to have been arrested for conspiracy behind the blast. The police says that
Interrogation of the doctor reveals that the railways was not the only target,
the terrorists had planned to blast many important installations as well.
Dr. Tanvir Ahmed Mohammed Ansari is a Unani
doctor holding a BUMS degree from Nagpur University, practising at Matunga.
He was detained by the Crime Branch CID along with many other suspects. On
Sunday the sleuths came to the conclusion that the medical practitioner was
doing much more than giving life to patients, he traded death as well. If
one is to believe the remand application submitted by ATS in Mazgaon court
the doctor was involved in conspiring in the serial blasts.
DCB CID had been grilling the people arrested
over the weekend. After sessions of interrogation by the Unit-II officers
they revealed that Ansari was involved in conspiracy in Mumbai, in other places
in India and even abroad. Also, the police revealed that the terrorists who
had conspired had on their minds many places apart from the vulnerable railways
at which they wanted to carry out blasts. Dr. Ansari is a vital link in the
design of the whole conspiracy and his arrest could help the investigation
immensely.
The crime branch handed over the accused to
ATS which has been investigating the case. ATS produced the accused before
Additional Metropolitan Magistrate A M Garde who asked the accused if he had
to say anything about the remand application submitted against him. "Police
kya likha hai muze malum nahi,' said Ansari. The court remanded the accused
to police custody till Aug 4.
The ATS officers said that Ansari was an alleged
Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) operative and had undergone training in Pakistan in
handling arms and ammunitions and making bombs and explosives. Ansari is the
fourth accused to be arrested in connection with the blast. The others are
Kamal Ahmed Ansari, Khaleed Aziz Sheikh and Mumtaz Ahmed Choudhary.
