Having returned to Denmark after 20 years
in Ireland, I was shocked to find that most attempts to integrate the large
Muslim population in Denmark has failed miserably. Therefore, it is extremely
worrying that Ireland and especially the RTE/Irish Times liberal brigade refuse
to discuss this problem which will hit these shores eventually.
All the more important that your excellent
columnist Kevin Myers is regularly addressing the issue in the Irish Independent.
In Denmark, all political parties agree that
integration has failed and please note we are talking about second generation
immigrant, that is, kids born in Denmark by parents of middle eastern origin.
This has resulted in a tightening of the immigration
laws and some racist activity on the fringes of Danish society which makes
it very difficult for the well adjusted/integrated immigrants who are all
tarred with the same brush.
Those who may be tempted to portray Denmark
as being anti-immigrant should consider that the country brought thousands
of Danish citizens of Lebanese origin back from Beirut recently when they
were holidaying at "home".
So Ireland, wake up and listen to Mr Myers.
