Does the religious preaching improve moral values in us? The question may trigger conflicting views among the scholars. But if we go by a recent research it certainly assists in improving moral values and characters, especially among the students. Neelav Tiwari, a teacher at the Regional School of Bhopal in his MEd thesis has claimed that reading of verses of Ramayana certainly helps the students in improving ethics.

Neelav Tiwari who conducted the research also said that the verses of Ramayana prove to be helpful in incorporating disciplines, moral values, compassion and empathy in students.

A research was conducted by Tiwari on class VIII students of Lal Bahadur Shastri National Institute of New Delhi. After eight months' research on 60 students it was found that the students who were imparted preaching of Ramayana were found more disciplined, kind-hearted, ethical more than their the other fellows of their class.

A gold medallist in MA in Sanskrit, Tiwari for his research chose 10 verses that were recited by Rama in the Ramayana. He also separated the students into two groups each group containing 30 students.

Verses of Ramayana were discussed with one group while the other group was just left with normal educational curriculum. After several sessions with the 30 students it was found that the students who had sessions with Ramayana verses were found to be more disciplined, ethical, kind hearted and other human qualities.

Tiwari informed that the research was conducted for eight months with several sessions with the students and the students were kept ignored about the research that was being conducted on them.

Tiswari also claimed that the verses recited by Rama in Ramayana have the quintessence of human life.
