Two Pakistani Christians have been sentenced
to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25,000 each for burning
copies of the holy Quran.
The Anti-Terrorist Court in Faisalabad passed
the order on Saturday under Section 295-B of the Pakistan Penal Code, The
Daily Times reported.
According to the prosecution, Jamil alias
James Masih and Boota Masih were caught burning the pages of the Quran on
September 8, 2006 in Multan's Nishatabad area.
Christians constitute a microscopic minority
in Pakistan and live in secluded areas in major towns. Media reports have
said they feel discriminated in jobs and education.
The charge of burning or damaging a copy of
the holy book is trumped up against them, media reports in the past have said.
