Impressed by Vedic marriage rites, a Russian
woman and an American man have tied the knot as per Hindu custom at a hotel
in Agra.
Looking dapper in a gray sherwani and pugree,
George Vandervort (62) came in a horse-driven coach to a hotel on Sunday where
Elena Patrona (53), attired in a Rajasthani 'lehnga' and all the bridal finery
was waiting for him.
The Vedic rites followed, performed by head
of the Radhaswami Satsang Agam Mathur to culminate with the bride and groom
offering jayamala (exchanging flower garlands).
They are both meteorological engineers and
divorcees with a daughter each and Vandervort said he visited India four years
ago and had been impressed by the Hindu marriage rites.
He met Petrona in Russia where he had gone
as a visiting professor and then love bloomed.
