The arrest of two Bangladeshi nationals at
Lantilla in Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya has opened a new window on
how Bangladeshis have been carrying on businesses and working in the major
towns of the State.
The Border Security Force personnel arrested
two Bangladeshi nationals at Lantilla in Jaintia Hills on Wednesday night
and the revelation confirmed the long suspected Bangladeshis prospering in
the State.
The BSF party arrested Subhash Singha and
Brij Mohan Singha, both from Maulvi Bazar. While Rs 22,463 in cash was recovered
from them, the amazing fact is that one owned a welding shop while the other
is engaged in trade for the past two years in Jowai town.
Following the duo's revelations, the Additional
Deputy Inspector General of the BSF (Assam, Meghalya and Nagaland frontier)
VK Sikarvar said today, "The continued illegal intrusion of Bangladeshis
for smuggling, theft, manual work and other trans-border crimes is a matter
of concern for the BSF as well as a cause of misery to the border population".
While the arrested duo were handed to the
Dawki Police station for legal action, the BSF statement today only authenticates
the people's long held belief that it is not the Indians but the Bangladeshis
who are the threat to the local populace.
