With the winds of change blowing over East
Midnapore following the panchayat polls, Nandigram OC and the ruling CPM's
blue-eyed boy Debashis Chakrabarty is in a spot.
The CRPF, deployed in Nandigram a day before
the polls on May 11, has dragged the OC to court for his alleged attack and
molestation of CRPF constable Dimple Sharma.
CRPF assistant commandant Prem Kumar Ravi
on Monday slapped charges of physical assault and molestation (Sections 323,
332, 354 of the IPC) against Chakrabarty in his petition before the Haldia
subdivisional court.
Additional chief judicial magistrate Arpan
Kumar Chattopadhyay took up the petition for hearing and directed SDPO Gourav
Sarkar to look into the matter.
Dimple had lodged a police complaint on the
day of the elections when the state police force led by the Nandigram OC clashed
with the central forces at Garupara.
The incident occurred within hours of CPM
MP Lakshman Seth having a spat with CRPF DIG Alok Raj over the movement of
the central forces. Two women from Nandigram also brought molestation charges
against Raj, but the case became weak after one of them denied being consulted
about the complaint. The state administration thereafter played down the charges.
