The plan for the serial blasts in Ahmedabad and the proposed one in Surat was hatched in Vadodara, said the Commissioner of Police Rakesh Ashtana on Saturday. While the explosives were procured from Madhya Pradesh and Ahmedabad, the meetings took place in Vadodara and were attended by Safdar Nagori, the mastermind of the blast amongst other SIMI activists.

"There are three factors. First is the recovery of the newspaper with Vadodara dateline along with the cars bearing a GJ-06 number found at the blasts sites at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital and the car bomb found in Surat. Second, the blasts did not happen in Vadodara while explosives were found in Surat after the Ahmedabad blasts. Third, Vadodara lies in between Ahmedabad and Vadodara," said Asthana

Both the SIMI activists nabbed from Vadodara in connection with the blasts - Imran Ibrahim Sheikh (23) and Mohammed Usman Agarbattiwala (24) are former students of M S University. "Imran pursued a course in Human Rights and Journalism, while Usman did BCom from the University," said Asthana. Both of them had earlier attended training camps in Kerela and Pavagadh, but were registered under different names.

The Anti Terrorism Squad, during investigations, also discovered that both Imran's and Usman's family were not affected by the 2002 Godhra riots. However, they did not have any criminal records, said police sources. Imran's house in Wadi and Usman's in Yakutpura were locked up because their families wanted to stay hidden from public glare, sources said.
