The BJP on Tuesday termed Congress leader
Rahul Gandhi's comment on the CBI as a "confessional statement"
of the ruling party that it was misusing the investigating agency.
"The Congress today said that every government
misuses the CBI ... When there were some charges of corruption against the
Indira Gandhi Government, she had said the corruption is a global phenomena.
Today's statement is in that tradition. In a way this is a confessional statement
by the ruling party that they are misusing the CBI," BJP General Secretary
Arun Jaitley told reporters here.
Mr. Gandhi had earlier in the day, to a question
whether CBI is being misused by ruling regime, said it was a "systematic
issue" and it was not a question of one particular agency.
"Every party which is in power could
put pressure on institutions. It is a fact," the Congress leader said,
adding that every government try to push its people into such agencies .
Mr. Jaitley reiterated that if the NDA is
voted to power, it would form a commission that will explore and suggest measures,
including legal, and changes to prevent misuse of the CBI.
The saffron party had last week announced
the formation of such commission after the red corner notice against Bofors
scam accused Ottavio Quattrocchi was withdrawn by the CBI on the opinion of
Attorney General.
