One of the prime accused in the September
29, 2008 blast at Malegaon, sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur alias Purnachetanandagiri
has complained to the special trial court that she was beaten up by an inmate
of the Byculla jail where she is lodged.
Sadhvi's advocate Ganesh Sovani on Tuesday
moved an application before the Maharashtra Control for Organised Crime Act
(MCOCA) court seeking to file a private complaint.
Additional Sessions Judge M R Puranik allowed
her to file a complaint and accordingly she would file a complaint before
Mazagaon metropolitan court.
Talking to Sakal Times, Sovani said that on
March 26 she was admitted to the Sir JJ Hospital and was discharged from there
on April 15 and accordingly shifted to the Byculla jail.
On April 16, Mumtaz Shaikh, who has been detained
under MPDA, abused her when she saw the sadhvi in jail. "She used expletives
and bad language and threatened her," he said.
On Monday, while the inmates were proceeding
for lunch, Mumtaz hit her with a bowl and she sustained bruises on her nose,
neck and below the left eye.
The sadhvi had complained to the jailor about
the earlier incidents and on repetition of a similar incident on Monday she
decided to file a complaint against the Shaikh.
