YSR reinstates DGP shunted out by the EC for
praising CM in the midst of polls
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S R Reddy
did not wait even 24 hours to bring back former DGP S S P Yadav who was shunted
out by the Election Commission for praising YSR's leadership and undertaking
a foreign trip during the polls. Yadav had been replaced by A K Mohanty, a
straightforward officer who drew accolades from all parties, except the Congress,
for fair conduct of the polls.
But the CM never left anyone in doubt about
how important Yadav is to him and that his return was imminent. Even before
the election results were out on May 16, he had taken Yadav to an official
function - review at Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) - in
his native Kadapa district on May 7 when the election code was still in force
since the counting was on May 16. Yadav, in civil dress, shared the dais with
YSR.
After the Congress won a simple majority on
its own, YSR took oath as CM at 6 pm on Wednesday and gave orders to reinstate
Yadav by 11 am on Thursday. Along with Mohanty, the CM also shunted out two
senior IPS officers - Venkateswara Reddy and Charu Sinha - who were appointed
by the Election Commission. As of now, the government is yet to give a posting
to Mohanty.
