At a time when Gujarat has been ranked sixth
in Human Development Index report, state Industry said families from Gujarat
find it difficult to meet the criteria set for Below poverty Line (BPL) by
the centre.
"When Centre makes norms for BPL families
from Gujarat to fit in because one of the basic criteria for a BPL family
is that he or she should not have fan," Patel said.
He was addressing a gathering at an event
or ganised to mark opening of sub-regional office of EEPC India here.
"To increase the yield of milk, people
in Gujarat put fans in cattle sheds to keep their livestock cool," Patel
said.
"You go to a village and you will find
every house has a TV. It is natural because the growth in economy has led
to spurt buying. We don't have to give sops like free TVs," he said.
" In small village, there are people being two/three/four wheelers and
the number of vehicles in the state has increased more in the rural sector
than in urban areas. This is inclusive growth," Patel said.
However, figures of "Gujarat Human Development
Report-2004" show that state lacks in all round Development. It said
the state has to further re-orient its development process to ensure its economic
growth improves the opportunities in the lives of all socio-economic groups
in the state.
