The Kerala Bar Council today urged President
Pratibha Patil to order a probe into alleged amassing of wealth disproportionate
to their known sources of income by relatives of former CJI K G Balakrishnan.
Passing a unanimous resolution to this effect
at its meeting here, the Bar Council said, "Such an inquiry is needed
to bring out the truth."
The Bar Council is the apex body of all Bar
Associations and advocates in Kerala.
Earlier Bar Associations of Kozhikode and
Trichur had demanded that Justice Balakrishnan resign and face an inquiry.
Media reports had alleged that Justice Balakrishnan's
two sons-in-law P V Sreenijan and Benny and his younger brother K G Bhaskaran
had amassed properties in various parts of Kerala.
Sreenijan, an advocate and Youth Congress
worker had resigned from the party after an explanation was sought from him.
A vigilance probe is on against Sreenijan, who unsuccessfully contested the
last Assembly polls on a Congress ticket.
Bhaskaran, a senior government pleader, who
was looking after various cases of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes resigned
on health grounds after the Advocate General asked him to demit office or
go on leave.
