One person was killed and three injured in a clash between the Tyagi and Muslim communities in Farookhnagar, Ghaziabad on Sunday morning.
Police said Vipin Tyagi (25) died in the clash.
Police Armed Constabulary and local police force has been deployed in the area as the situation remains tense.
According to police, the clash has its roots in a motorcycle accident, in which three Muslim youths (on one motorcycle) and a Tyagi boy (on another motorcycle) were involved.
“On Saturday, there was an accident between a Tyagi boy and three Muslim youths. All involved were on motorcycles and juveniles. The Muslim boys allegedly beat up the boy from the Tyagi community. A police case was registered against four persons,” a police officer said.
At 8 am on Sunday, members of the Tyagi community went to confront those who attacked the boy. There was a fight, police said.
“They reportedly assaulted members of the Muslim community and then returned. In an hour’s time, both sides gathered in the area with arms. Shots were fired and one person was killed and three injured. Stones were pelted at each other by the communities. A case has been registered,” an officer said.
