Introduction: Voice Concern Over The International Community’s Lack of Action on The Issue
Asserting that Pakistan had become a 'center' for terrorist activities, Prime Minister AB Vajpayee on Monday voiced concern that no action was being taken against that country and urged the international community to put a stop to this.
'Pakistan has become a centre for terrorist activities. Although Pakistan is a member of the international coalition formed to fight terrorism, it is Pakistan where terrorists are gathering,' Mr Vajpayee told newsmen at the Raj Niwas before emplaning for Delhi after a three day visit to the island.
Mr Vajpayee made these remarks when asked to comment on General Pervez Musharaff's statement that Pakistan would be the international community's next target in it war against terrorists after the Iraqi crisis.
'They (Pakistan) have contacts with terrorists in other parts of the globe and yet there is no action taken against them. We would request our friends in the international arena to put a stop to the increasing terrorism through Pakistan' he said.
Toy a question on how state governments viewed the Centre's disinvestment policies, Mr Vajpayee said there were some differences on how to implement the policy of disinvestment, but no political parties or groups were against disinvestment as such. 'The policy (disinvestment) has come to a stage where it is irreversible,' he said. It will be ensured that unemployment will not arise due to disinvestment policies.
Mr Vajpayee said something has to be done to deal with loss-making public undertakings and suitable steps taken to see that workers are not rendered idle.
On curbing poaching activities in the Indian waters, Mr Vajpayee said: No permanent solution can be adopted for poaching. The sea is vast... Only solution is to be alert and careful.”
Referring to the construction of
the road, which would join the Himalayas to Kanyakumari, the prime minister
said this project would generate employment opportunities.
