A woman, who was allegedly forced to consume cyanide, by her in-laws and husband died at a private hospital here on Sunday.

The woman, Gul Naaz Tabassum, 20, of Talabkatta married Mohammed Usman two years ago. Despite the girl’s family giving Rs 3 lakh in dowry, Usman and his parents allegedly harassed Gul for money. When Gul’s parents did not pay the additional dowry, her in-laws forced her to consume cyanide.

When the body was taken to the Osmania Hospital for post- mortem, doctors took note of abrasions on the woman’s wrists and observed that she was immobilised and forced to take cyanide.

Usman and his parents have been arrested.

In a similar case, the parents of a 23-year-old woman, Y Pushpalatha, who was found hanging at her home in L B Nagar, alleged that their daughter’s in-laws had killed her for dowry. They said Pushpalatha’s husband Sitaram Reddy and his family had strangulated their daughter.
