The United States and India face the threat of possible attacks by terrorists or "rogue states" armed with weapons of mass destruction, the US ambassador said Monday.

"Other nations may fade in the war against terrorism," US Ambassador Robert Blackwill told a conference on Asian security. "India and the United States will be there at the finish, when we win."

He said India and the US share common interests in spreading peace and democracy in Asia, fighting terrorism and proliferation of nuclear weapons because "both India and the United States are principal victims of international terrorism."

He said both nations "face a significant risk in the next few years from either terrorists or rogue states armed with weapons of mass destruction."

Blackwill cited Iraq and North Korea as "dangerous cases," a reference to international fears that the two countries have, or are developing, nuclear, biological or chemical weapons.

He also said the United States "wants terrorist infiltration from Pakistan to end permanently."

He said Washington was "constantly" in touch with the government of Pakistan to discuss the issue, which was "high on our agenda".
