Six people were killed and 12 injured when suspected insurgents of banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) on Sunday night opened indiscriminate fire at a village in West Tripura district, police said.
A group of about 10 insurgents, suspected to be of NLFT, opened indiscriminate fire at four houses in the Mandai Chowmuhani village of the district killing two persons on the spot and injuring 16 others.
Four persons succumbed to injuries on the way to GB Panth hospital here, police said.
Top police officials with heavy reinforcements have rushed to the spot.
The ruling CPI-M condemned the incident
as an act of cowardice and alleged that the killing was a deliberate attempt
to create fear psychosis before the elections slated for February 26.
