Following the disintegration of the spaceship Columbia, America's loyal stooges, Musharraf-Jamali, issued condolences to the families, which included Indian and Israeli crew members. NASA is no more than an arm of the American military, which uses its spy satellites to inform India of the location of our strategic weapons.

The same military has killed thousands in Afghanistan, and plans to kill many more in Iraq, and closely cooperates with India and Israel against Muslims. It seems the blood of enemies of Pakistan and Islam are more precious to our rulers than the blood of Muslims. Will Musharraf-Jamali be attending the funerals of the US, Israeli and Indian troops killed in fighting Muslims?

Columbia

The moral lesson to be drawn from the tragic loss of the shuttle Columbia and its crew is that sometimes things don’t go according to plan and there is always an element of uncertainty beyond imagination and human control.

The explanation is to be found in the Holy Quran: “O assembly of jinns and men! If you have power to pass beyond the zones of the heavens and the earth, then pass (them)! But you will never be able to pass them, except with authority (from Allah)!” (Ar-Rahman:33)- ABDUL WAHID OSMAN BELAL, Karachi, via e-mail, February 2.

The disintegration of the Colombia and the falling of its debris to earth should be an awakening to the arrogant US President and the hawks in Washington. As Muslims, we believe in Al-Qadaa (divine fate) as a fundamental tenets.

It is a sobering and reassuring idea, as we are not accountable for those things outside our sphere of influence, whether for good or bad. We concern ourselves with those things Allah has put in our sphere of influence, for which we will be accountable. Thus the fall of the American spaceship, and of the American Empire are in the realm of Qadaa.

The debris of America’s arrogance and hegemony will also fall to earth and will also be Qadaa. We should be concerned with what effort we made to end the West’s oppression of mankind and to return Islam to the caretaking role it once occupied.- DR AMJAD MAHMUD , Lahore, via e-mail, February 3.

The seven members of the Columbia’s crew belonged to the three countries engaged in Muslim persecution on a scale unheard of before. Will the American President find time to heed this warning which is so loud and clear ? These three countries led by the USA will be devastated as has been shuttle Columbia, unless they mend their ways. The falling of the debris over Texas is a direct warning to Bush!- LT COL ZAFAR AHMED QURESHI, Indonesia, via e-mail, February 3.

Though US and Israeli intelligence agencies are quite intelligent this time they have failed to show their wisdom. Columbia shuttle has been destroyed by Al-Qaida, believe me.- INSPECTOR QABACHA, Lahore, vi a-mail, February 3.

The destruction of the space shuttle has saddened Mr Bush, who went to church. Most probably this time he failed to find a scapegoat. If he thinks hard, the terrorist hand of Israel and India cannot be ruled out as an Indian girl and an Israeli were part of the crew.

This is the right time to sort out the world terrorists. There are all probabilities that Osama Bin Laden must have advised these two terrorist states to destroy the shuttle, thinking that the clues of terrorism would not be traced out. So I request Mr Bush not to get sad and instead declare these two states as terrorists. After all we are your allies, pat us and we will sort them out. In this way you will achieve two missions. First, you will get rid of the extra burden of supporting Jews, and secondly India, a future superpower which may create trouble for you in the future, will be sliced suitably.- MAJ(R)IJAZUL HAQ BUTT, Lahore, via e-mail, February 3.

While my government has much to be ashamed of in its’ buildup for war with Iraq, the American people have felt much pride in the achievements of our space pioneers, who have given humans from all nations hope that the lofty goal of exploration and cooperation may never die. Pure science transcends the constraints of religion and culture to allow us all a piece of a beautiful vision.

So to all who’ve sent condolences for the loss of these intrepid seekers, I truly thank you. May we all keep the dream alive in their memory.-MICHELLE VILLAMUEVA, Gilbert, AZ, USA, via e-mail, February 3.
