Arot Sheikh, a farmer of Kachkali village in Nakashipara, was arrested today in connection with the death of his 20-year-old daughter-in-law. Jyotsna Bibi’s husband, Ator, is absconding.
Jyotsna committed suicide by consuming poison last night. Police found Jyotsna’s body in a banana grove close to her in-laws’ house early this morning.
A suicide note was found tied to her sari, where Jyotsna alleged that she had to take the extreme step as she was unable to bear the torture by her husband and in-laws.
Arot was arrested after Isub Sheikh,
Jyotsna’s father, lodged a complaint with the police. Isub said his daughter
had to commit suicide as he failed to pay her in-laws dowry within the
given time.
