RSS charges EC with being partisan

The RSS on Saturday made a scathing attack on the Election Commission charging it with “wearing selective glasses to see political parties” and asked it to demonstrate its “non-partisanship” in the manner it was treating the UPA allies.

“Bihar and Jharkhand have witnessed the most communal campaign but the Election Commission (EC) is conspicuously silent. Remember what hullaballoo it made during the Maharashtra and earlier Gujarat elections,” said an editorial in the latest issue of RSS’ mouthpiece Organiser.

Alleging that the poll panel had let off RJD chief Laloo Prasad after a “mild warning” for “openly” distributing currency notes to voters, it said, “That the election commission wears selective glasses to see the political parties is dear from the manner in which it is handling Bihar.”

Referring to Mr Prasad “unfailingly raising, twisting and using the Banedee committee report on the Godhra incident to mislead voters” despite the EC directive, it said “the commission has not yet restrained him strongly enough”.

Referring to attempts made by Laloo Prasad and LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan to woo Muslim voters, statements made by UPA government such as FDI in telecom sector and hike in EPF interest rate, over which the NDA had complained to the poll panel, it said, “Why is the EC so nimble-footed when it comes to the Congress and RJD? We have not heard a word from the commission on the query it made on EPF with the Centre,” it said.
