Introduction: Hindu State Youth Conference, Tiruchirapalli
“Hindutva is only Manavata, i.e., the characterisation of quality of Hindu in being a perfect human being. A man cannot exist without the quality of humanity. Similarly, a Hindu cannot exist without Hindutva. Thus, the connotation and equation of Hindutva with fundamentalism, terrorism and so on are totally unwarranted. Therefore, there is no place for terrorism in Hindutwa. But some people who do not have the capacity or wisdom and right thinking, give wrong interpretation to the word Hindu. The word Hindu is a combination of Hi+in+dhu=creating/producing happiness + helping dharma + destroyer of sins. Thus, a Hindu has twin characters of creation and destruction.” This is an excerpt from the inaugural address by Srimad Andavan Swamigal of Srirangam at the Hindu State Youth Conference organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad at Tiruchirapalli (Tamil Nadu) recently. Shri Ashok Singhal inaugurated the Conference by lighting the traditional lamp.
The myth spread by Dravidian parties that in Tamil Nadu, where rationalist E.V.R. (Ramaswami Nayakkar of Dravida Kazakam) was born, Hindu organisations cannot grow, was belied by the above Hindu State Youth Conference, in which well over 40,000 youth including vanavasis from Kodaikanal, etc, took active participation.
Shri Ashok Singhal, who spoke after Srimad Srirangam Andavan Swamigal, delved on the misinterpretation of “Hindu” as being propounded in Tamil Nadu. “Actually, we should be proud of calling ourselves Hindus”, he said. He categorised Hindus under three groups, namely, swabhimani Hindu (self-respecting Hindu), secular Hindu (broad-minded and accommodative Hindu), and virodhi Hindu (Hindus who work with enemies or against the interests of Hindus). “Hindu, who lives and works with self- respect without compromising with any moral values is swabhimani Hindu”, he said. Hindus with the quality of broad-mindedness, gradually, became secular, (thus compromising on self-respect), was secular Hindu, Shri Singhal maintained and added that Communists, leftists, and such ‘secular’ Hindus did no good to Hindu society and should be considered virodhi Hindus.
“Hindus are nearly a hundred crore,
but they are unable to prevent the killing of cows and that too to feed
just about 12 per cent of minorities. This has been possible only because
of the benevolence of ‘secular’ Hindus. Over 30,000 Hindu temples were
destroyed, 3,000 mosques built, but we demand only three places to be returned
to Hindus—Ayodhya, Mathura and Kashi. This demand is opposed because the
‘secular’ Hindus support them (those who oppose these demands). It was
the exasperation of the Hindus that resulted in the demolition of the disputed
structure in Ayodhya on December 6, 1992. The ‘secular’ Hindus declare
this as black day, but the Hindus with self-respect consider it the day
of liberation. Note the conceptual difference between these two. Again,
the Jihadi forces got courage to burn the train coach at Godhra with Hindu
pilgrims at Godhra, only because of the support and encouragement extended
by the ‘secularists’, leftists and ‘benevolent’ Hindus”, Shri Singhal lamented.
He commended Jayalalitha for enacting anti- conversion law.
Blessing the gathering Shri Jayendra Saraswathi, Shankaracharya of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham spoke about the most ancient religion of India. “There cannot be a Christian without knowing the Bible and Muslim without knowing the Quran; but, there are Hindus without knowing or reading their scriptures. Hindu religion is the ancient one existing throughout the world in the past, but now, it is restricted to homes in India. This situation should change,” he urged.
Dr Praveen Togadia, by reading out from a news published in London Times (23-1- 2003), in which the cleric declared that if any Muslim saw a Hindu on his way or came across his path, he could kill him because he was a kafir and his life and property were not sacred according to the tenets of Islam, pointed out as to how a Muslim clergy could go to the extent of disparaging Hindus. This, he pointed out to expound the Jihadi mentality of fundamentalist Muslims.
He refuted the allegation that Ramjanmabhoomi
and VHP were responsible for communal riots. The VHP came into existence
only in 1964, but the riots have occurred even earlier. Why in China, Israel,
Chechnya, Indonesia, Malaysia and other countries, where VHP was non-existent,
there should be riots? he asked. The Jihadi psyche or mentality should
be understood properly, he said. “Muslims say that the concept of Jihad
is misinterpreted or misunderstood. There are about one lakh Jihadis in
the world. Why has no fatwa been issued against such Jihadis for their
unIslamic act or misinterpretation of the Quran? Dr Togadia further asked.
Elaborating on the Jihadi psyche,
Dr Togadia said that in India, the Jihadi psyche could be traced back to
Khilafat movement, for which the Congress had been responsible. The immediate
reaction of Muslims could be seen in the Moplah rebellion in 1942, where
nearly 3000 Hindus had been killed, women raped and children killed without
any mercy or remorse, he added.
Another factor that encouraged Jihadi psyche in India was the subsidy given to Haj yatris, while Hindus had to go on teerth yatra on their own money, said Dr. Togadia and added that unlike in India, there were no separate laws for Muslims in other countries. “This type of pampering encourages Jihadi psyche. Jammu and Kashmir and Gujarat are the best examples. How did Muslims get the courage of burning down Hindu pilgrims at Godhra? What would have happened, if such incident happened in Pakistan, UK or Japan? Dr Togadia posed.
He emphasised that no mosque could be built at Ramjanmabhoomi. It was like building a mosque in the name of Osama bin Laden at the place of Twin Towers of WTC destroyed by the Islamic terrorists, he said.
Dr Praveen Togadia released a booklet titled Our Warfare written by Shri R.R. Gopaljee, President, Hindu Youth Movement, VHP, and the first copy was received by Shri Ashok Singhal. This is a guide to Hindu youths, and is a compilation of details gathered from various sources covering different aspects of religion, culture, tradition, history, inspiring national leaders, warriors, cow-protection, globalization, women issues, self- improvement, etc.
Shri Kamalatmananda Maharaj of Sri Ramakrishna Mutt, Shri Ooran Adigalar of Vadalur, Swami Raghavananda of Tapovanam, Tiruppraturai, Shri S. Vedantam, International Vice-President of VHP, Shri V. Mayilsamy, President, Tamil Nadu VHP, and Shri R.S. Narayanaswamy, General Secretary, Tamil Nadu VHP, were also present at the Conference.
