Labour Friends of India (LFIN) condemn Nandimarg Massacre kiling of 24 Hindus

Press Release

Gareth Thomas MP, Chair of LFIN, condemned the indiscriminate killing of 24 Hindus Pandits in Jammu & Kashmir on 23rd March 2003 where terrorists dressed in army uniforms entered Nandimarg with the single objective of taking innocent lives.

Thomas said: "We express our deepest condolences to the families of those who were slain in this attack and condemn this attack on humanity in the strongest possible terms".

Today's outrage comes in the background of the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed appealing for Hindu Pandits to return to the state as part of his healing touch policy.

This latest atrocity, Thomas added: "also serves to highlight that India still suffers from cross border infiltration & terrorism. We urge the Government of India to work with the state government in this difficult period to focus primarily on restoring the confidence of local people as well as taking the peace agenda to the next level".

A LFIN delegation of MPs returned from Jammu & Kashmir in January 2003 where they had several high level meetings with LK Advani, Yashwant Sinha and Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in which they learnt more about the security & political situation vis-à-vis Jammu & Kashmir.

END.
