Reacting to Congress President Sonia Gandhi's call to the people to differentiate between the age-old concept of Hinduism and Hindutva propagated by the Sangh Parivar, VHP leader Pravin Togadia on Saturday took a dig at her foreign origin and said the "daughter of Italy is now trying to teach us Hindutva."

Without naming Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, he said, a top leader of the country had also said that the Hinduism of Swami Vivekananda was good and some people now were giving Hindutva a bad name.

The firebrand VHP leader, however, asserted "Hinduism" was merely a name given by the West to "Hindutva" which referred not only to a geographical entity but also a nation, a religion and a way of worship.

"There are no 'isms' in the Hindu ideology. It is the eurocentric elite of the country who confine Hindutva to a way of worship," said while delivering a lecture on 'Hindutva-In Present Context."

Terming the Jawaharlal Nehru University(JNU) as the "biggest madrasa of secular maulvis," he urged the Vajpayee government to close down the institute to save the country as the "Islamic jehad" would continue till the university functioned.
