Lashkar-e-Taiba vowed on Wednesday to strike within India  to avenge the killing of Hamas spiritual leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin.

"We will take revenge here in India as Yahud (Jews) and Hanood (Hindus) are two sides of the same coin," a spokesman for Lashkar-e-Taiba was quoted saying by Greater Kashmir newspaper.

"We will convene a meeting of field commanders shortly to decide as to how revenge could be taken," the spokesman said.

India and Israel have been forging closer ties since the late 1990s, particularly in military cooperation.

The government, however, said it was "appalled" by the helicopter strike on Sheikh Yassin on Monday in Gaza , saying the assassination of the wheelchair-bound cleric "would exacerbate the cycle of violence."
