One function which Shibu Soren attended
during his week's tenure as CM was the plenary assembly of the conference
of Catholic Bishops of India. Lauding the church's role in the development
of tribals, he said: "Pehle Adivasi char paya the, Church unko do paya
banaya (Earlier, tribals were four-footed, the church made them two-footed)."
Predictably, his rivals in the NDA were up in arms. "For the sake of Christian
votes, he didn't hesitate to demean the members of his community," they
said.
