Kapil Sibal is a senior advocate In the Supreme Court and had
unsuccessfully contested last Lok Sabha elections against BJP
spokesperson Sushma Swaraj from South Delhi. Recently, he
surprised many present In the Delhi High Court where he was
appearing on behalf of S K Jain of hawala fame. The case was
concerning LT president L K Advani. His counsel Ram Jethmalani had
concluded his arguments and Sibal started his arguments on behalf
of the Jains. For four consecutive days, 80 per cent of the time
he devoted defending Advani. Apart from proving Advani's
innocence, he commented about Advani with most laudable words:
Advani is the tallest Indian today; he is the tallest politician
too; his life style is exemplarily austere and so on and so forth.
After learning from friends, Advani rang Sibal up to thank him.
Sibal told that whatever he spoke, he spoke from the core of his
heart. When the chargesheet of Advani had come last year, Sibal
had offered his services to fight out the case in the court.
Advani had declined by saying that the party had already decided on
the counsel. The opportunity which Sibal did not get formerly, he
availed while defending the Jains. While speaking in a seminar on
'Parliamentary Democracy and Judiciary', Mani Shankar Aiyar, a
former Congress MP, said that Lok Sabha was devoid of parliamentary
talents like L K Advani, for he had vowed that he would not enter
Parliament unless exonerated by the court. In one of his articles,
Aiyar said that Advani had been wrongly framed.
