Shri Ashok Singhal, working president of Vishwa Hindu Parishad
regards the recommendation of the Minority Commission as a
conspiracy of anti-national elements active in the country since
the days of British rule. The Britishes, he said, made every
possible attempt for breaking the Hindu society which resulted in
the Partition of the country. They also deliberately encouraged
division in the Hindu society on the basis of caste and religion.
Unfortunately, almost all the governments of India after
Independence followed the same policies. The recent move to
declare Jains as a minority is also a Part of that conspiracy.
No prominent acharya or intellectual among Jains supports this
move. Shri Singhal said that he had received a long letter from
Sagar Maharaj and also from other people of the Jain community who
had strongly opposed the attempt. This is not a matter to be
decided by the Minority Commission or any political party. It will
be decided by prominent saints of the Hindu society. "In my
opinion the Minority Commission is totally useless. It should be
abolished immediately, and the Human Right Commission be
encouraged," he stated.
He demanded that facilities that are not provided to the majority
community should not be given to any minority. "It is
unconstitutional and discrimination before law and justice."
