The National Commission for minorities, which is brokering proposed talks between the RSS, Vishwa Hindu Parishad Bajrang Dal and Christian groups, has said it is waiting for the Christian organisations to consult each other and make up their mind on the issue.

A member of the commission, Mr Tarlochan Singh, told The Asian Age: “The RSS has told us in writing that it is willing to talk to Christian leader on the issue. Even the VHP has given a verbal commitment for the dialogue. We are waiting for the various Christian organisations to made up their mind and come forward as delegates for the talks.”

Earlier, a delegation of the National Council of churches in India which represents 25 Protestant and four Orthodox Churches in the country had met the commission officials and had expressed willingness to hold a dialogue with representatives of Hindu organisations.

Mr Singh said the reason why the RSS, VHP and Bajrang Dal are being called to hold talks with Christian leaders is that these are the organisations against whom all the allegations are being levelled by the letter. “If the organisations who are accused of certain things are not participating in the dialogue, what is the need for such a talk?” said Mr Singh.

Meanwhile, the All India Catholic Union and the All India Christian Council have attacked the minorities commission for maintaining a “deafening silence on the extremely hate-filled, provocative and vicious statements emanating from the Sangh Parivar, particularly, from RSS chief K.S. Sudarshan.”

The vice-president of the AICU and the secretary general of the AICC, Mr John Dayal, said, “His (RSS chief K. Sudarshan) latest statement on setting up of a federation of swadeshi churches is gross interference. Even members of the commission continue to make irresponsible statements. Recently they said in Orissa that there is no systematic violence against Christians in India.”

Mr Dayal said Mr Sudarshan’s recent statements have been unconstitutional and his charges amount to maligning the minority and creating friction between communities.
