Coming down on the Congress governments since Independence for ignoring netaji subhash chandra bose's achievements, Home Minister L K Advani on Sunday night said it was made to look like India got freedom only due to one family.

"Unfortunately in India there has been discrimination. Sometimes from the government. Bose's place should have been such that no leader could have matched it in 50 or 55 years. But for years he was ignored, it looked that independence was achieved only due to one family though that family had made its contribution in the freedom struggle," he said.

Addressing the ina war veterans here, Mr Advani said that to overlook the achievements of bose and other ina soldiers in the freedom struggle was unfortunate.

"To highlight the achievements of one family just to show devotion to it and ignoring the contributions and bravery of bose and others was wrong," he said.

Appealing to people of Gujarat to eschew violence, Home Minister l k advani on Sunday said there was no place for revenge in this country and steps would have to be taken to correct the situation in the strife-torn State.

"Revenge serves no purpose in this country. Whatever happened in Gujarat is condemnable," Mr Advani said, addressing the iNA war veterans.

"What happened in Godhra was wrong and what happened after Godhra was equally wrong. We have to correct it. There is no place for revenge in this country," he said.

He said the communal violence in Gujarat had dealt a serious blow to the country's unity and called for giving up the attitude of revenge.

"The Godhra train arson and the subsequent incidents are highly condemnable. Such incidents threaten the unity of the country and cannot be justified," Mr Advani said while addressing the gathering at a function to honour the ina veterans here.

"Hundreds of people lost their lives in the incidents. And we have to shed this attitude of revenge," he said while expressing concern over nearly two-month-long communal violence in Gujarat.

It was the Government's duty to ensure good governance to win faith of the people, he observed.

Earlier he distributed mementos to the ina veterans who have settled abroad.

Meanwhile, the centre on Sunday said it has taken a serious view of the reported incident of gangrape by three Border Security Force (bsf) personnel in Pahalgam area of Jammu and Kashmir and asserted that strict action has been initiated against the guilty.
