The Police Commissioner's Task Force Team in yet another major breakthrough arrested one Zubair Shareef, an ISI trained militant, in a raid conducted here on Saturday.
According to the police, another module of ISI-trained militants was unearthed and Zubair, a resident of Saidabad, was one of the six highly motivated Pan Islamic Muslim militants of the city who had been sent to Pakistan for training in weapons handling and IED manufacturing.
The group subsequently returned to India and had been waiting for instructions from their leader Rauf for participating in Jehad operations.
The group after obtaining their passports had proceeded to Kolkata on November 6 last year and boarded a flight to Bangkok. They were received at the airport by one Iqbal and Sohail and from there were taken to Karachi and later to Islamabad before reaching the ISI training camp.
The purpose of the training was to create disturbances in India to "avenge the atrocities committed by Hindus in Gujarat". The group, after training, were ordered to go to their respective places and wait for further orders. Their passports were tampered with to conceal their visit to Pakistan. The trainees returned in January 2003 to Kolkata and from there to the city individually. Meanwhile, the accused reportedly said that he was mentally tortured by other members of his group, who doubted his loyalty to the cause.
The police seized the tampered passport
and seditious literature from the accused. The accused and the seized material
was handed over to City Crime Station for further investigation.
