No, he hasn't got patriotic - that's what sister Haseena Aapa is fondly called by gang members
Global terrorist and the country's most wanted gangster Dawood Ibrahim has launched a very serious effort to save Mother India.
That's what the gangland calls his sister Haseena Parkar, who has been booked for threatening and cheating a property developer, Vinod Avlani, of Rs 30 lakh.
It is believed that Dawood is worried as Haseena has not responded to his summons, and will definitely do his best to scuttle investigations to save her and the police officers she favours.
Gang members have also been asked to deal with the media if necessary.
The task for both has been assigned to Fazlu alias Bihari, an old associate and Haseena's financial adviser.
Bihari has been handling Dawood's interests in hawala transactions from Dongri and Bori Mohalla.
Police Commissioner D N Jadhav and his deputy Joint Commissioner Meeran Borwankar at a press conference yesterday, refused to comment on what action is being initiated against Haseena. They fear any disclosure could hamper investigations.
Desperate Dawood
Fearing that his last bastion in south Mumbai, handled by Haseena, is in jeopardy, Dawood has also roped in other associates - Umar Tingu and Salim Kode.
Sources believe that while it is likely the diktat may not have come from Dawood directly. The command could have percolated down the hierarchy of lieutenants like Chhota Shakeel and Fayeem Machmach, both believed to be in Karachi.
Dawood's position is further threatened after police officials are contemplating to invoke MCOCA in the Wadala slum redevelopment case.
His younger brother Iqbal has been detained for the past three years in connection with the Sara Sahara shopping mall construction deal near Crawford Market.
