Every day at sunrise, constable Shaitan Singh, a Khoji or tracker with the Border
Security Force, diligently examines a stretch of sand running alongside the
wire-fencing border with Pakistan, for any tell-tale signs of infiltration. The
slightest disturbance in the sand raises the alarm for the 37-year-old tracker.
It tells him whether any human or animal has crossed the three-tiered barbed wire
fence at the remote Gadra Road border post, over 800 km west of New Delhi
