Bhopal, 25 July 2000

Sadar Namakar,

Sewa Bharati Madhya Pradesh, with the cooperation of you all, is progressing satisfactorily.  For your kind information, I am giving the present position of a few prominent projects at various stages.  I will be grateful to you if you, besides giving your own attention, also circulate this information amongst your kith and kins, as also in your friend circle.

I am sure, this noble cause and our humble afforts for the poors of this country will appeal to one and all.  At Bhopal we are at the stage of completion for the construction of a three-storied Tribal Boys' Hostel.  How we could do it, is a story in itself.  One middle class gentleman amongst us had a house in a very prominent area of the city in a plot admeasuring 3600 sq.ft.  with the constructed house of about 1200 sq.ft.  He has donated his house in memory of his late wife.  With the major alteration and renovation, the above Hostel has been constructed to accommodate about 50 tribal students.  During the selection process children who have stood in first class in XIIth and Xth standards only are being admitted.  We had already 20 students presently at rented accommodation and two more have come this year.  One more student is doing M.C.A.  (Master of Computer Application) thus the total student are 23.  It will take a little more time for completion and finish up of this new Tribal Hostel.  In view of this we have not admitted new students this year.  During the next year, without compromising with the caliber, we will complete the total strength of 50.

Inauguration of the Hostel is fixed for 20th August 2000.

At Gwalior Tribal Students who have secured first class in Vth standard numbering 30, have been admitted.  For selection process of these students, a 10-day study camp was organised.  For every five student's, one observer of good standard was deputed, who was closely watching the day to day activity and attitude all the time.  Main angles of observing the boys were to see the student's memory, grasping power, leadership qualities, coordination capacity with co-fellows and attitude towards teachers and elders' etc.  Every day classes were taken in the subjects like mathematics, general knowledge, Hindi etc.  Examination was held on the last day and on the basis of marks secured, the selection was done.  Students have started going to Vidyalaya.

Special feature of this scheme is that students should come up to be competent enough to compete in higher cadres like I.A.S., I.P.S., MBA's.  Engineering, Medical etc.  With reservation for tribals, scope for services are ample and these students can take advantage of this also.  Being from the remote tribal belts they do not normally have good schools and the teaching is very poor in whatever schools are there.  These students with us, will come up in urban and enlightened environments, to be at par with other general students.

Tribal Girl's Hostel is at Pathalgaon Dist.  Jashpur, (Carved out of the erstwhile Raigarh Dist.) of Madhya Pradesh.  All occupants of the Hostel have secured first class in Vth standard.  Marks secured range between 65 to 86%.  For the present lodging etc.  of the students has been made in "Shishu Mandir Pathalgaon".  Land admeasures 8000 sq.ft.  has been purchased.

The land already has four-five mud made big rooms with thatched roof and earthen tiles.  Minor alterations in this accommodation has been made to provide for Toilets, Bathroom, one prayer room and a hall added to earlier existing four rooms.  In addition two-roomed house for the warden, a room for Choukidar have been constructed.  In all, by this month end all the arrangement will be completed to ensure shifting of the tribal girls from Shishu Mandir to this abode.  Arrangement for education has been made at Shishu Mandir Pathalgaon.  "Kanya Chhatravas" is a very necessary project.  This adventure of Sewa Bharati for tribal girls' hostel and their education will pave way for increasing ladies education amongst tribals and further spread amongst ladies in general.  This is the first adventure of Sewa Bharati ensuring far-reaching impact during the years to come.  I hope you will kindly agree that, even one girl taken over today by us and brought up in environment prevailing in our institutions will not only bring herself above, but also surcharge the atmosphere in her tribe besides her own family.  It may appear unbelievable, but it is even numerically true that one single such girl, will grow in to 500 or more such males and/or females, having the precious ancient culture of this devine land i.e.  BHARAT, endeared at their hearts.  Moral values such as character honesty, sacrifice, nationalism will in this process, be imbibed in each every one amongst such 500 to make them real asset of this great country.

Thus, 3 Hostels girls/boys are at various stages.  Near Jabalpur in District- Dindori one Tribal Hostel, accommodating 20 boys is running since last year.

Besides this one Hostel for handicapped children at Bhopal and one at Khandwa is being run.  Both these handicapped children Hostel have strength of 40 and 55 respectively.

The main logic behind establishing these Hostels is that, if we extend financial support to a family, there will be no permanent benefit to that family nor spirit will be created in other people around such a family, to endeavor for improving their own conditions.  As against this if we bring up one girl or boy right from the childhood, upto the highest stage of securing respectable jobs, this family will permanently come above the present pitiable conditions, and other members of the family will also be educated and will be able to stand on their own.  This family will be an ideal for the rest of the tribals and poor, to imbibe spirit of coming above the deluge they are presently living in.

With best regards,

Yours sincerely,

Vishnu Kumar,
SEWA BHARATI MADHYA PRADESH
