Marxist ploy to scuttle RSS-SNDP cooperation

The interview of Shri Vellapalli, Natesan, General Secretary of the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogani, that appeared in Organiser, dated 16-6-02 has sent jitters among the State's Christian and Marxist camps. The CPM mouthpiece Deshabhimani, TV Channel Kairali and the sword arm of the section of the Christian community, Malayala Manorama have been highlighting portions of the interview with the covert intention of scuttling the RSS-SNDP co-operation. Both the camps have a vested interest in preventing the RSS and SNDP from joining hands. The Marxists, who are already undergoing erosion of their ranks from the Marxist party and losing them to the RSS, are also facing a serious defection of its cadres to the SNDP. In the past few months the number of SNDP shakhas have increased from 4 to 80 in the Marxist fortress of Kannur. Similar is the case in most other districts. The dynamics and killer instinct which Natesan has infused in his cadres has placed the Marxist party at the receiving, end. Similarly Vellapalli's strong and principled stand against the Christian community, which is dominating the educational, agricultural, commercial and liquor industry in Kerala has earned him the wrath of the Christian lobby and its mouthpiece Malayala Manorama. Moreover, outside the Sangh, the only major community leader criticising the acts of Christian community is Shri Vellapalli Natesan.

Malayala Manorama in its issue dated 13-6-2002, carried a box item (in all editions) highlighting Natesan's views against the Christian lobby and the Church. Kairali TV channel in its main news bulletin at 7 p.m. on the same day carried a headline highlighting the CPM State Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan's address to a CPM organised seminar at Tirur, Malappuram, that the proposed RSS-SNDP co-operation is fraught, with dangerous consequences for the State. Asianet TV channel also made it a headline item in their 7 p.m. bulletin. Next day Deshabhimani carried the same news with a red-banner headline.

The New Indian Express, The Hindu and the Malayala Manorama carried detailed reports of Pinarayi's address. The SNDP Yogam President Shri Vidyasagar's statement that they are prepared to co-operate with those who respond to its ideals constructively, appeared in the New Indian Express and Kerala Kaumudi of 15-6-02 was a shock to the Marxists and the Malayala Manorama The Hindu and the New Indian Express also carried BJP President C.K. Padmanabhan's statement welcoming the co-operation. The Malayala Manorama of 17-6-02 carried a news item that Shri Natesan has denied having given any interview to Organiser. This was a Marxist-Manorama ploy to scuttle RSS-SNDP co-operation and to humiliate Organiser. But this covert strategy collapsed like ninepins when the Editor of Organiser Shri Seshadri Chari spoke over telephone to Vellapalli Natesan in Dubai, UAE. In his telephonic conversation with the Editor, Vellapalli Natesan stood by his remarks made in the interview. Malayala Manorama had reported that Vellapalli denied giving an interview to Organiser, which is absolutely false, said the SNDP Yogam General Secretary from Dubai. “We have a photograph of Natesan talking to our representative, and we are ready to publish the same in our next issue if needed. But Shri Natesan doesn't deny having given an interview to Organiser”, said Shri Chari. What has the CPM done for the welfare of the Ezhava community during the last 50 years? Natesan asked. The Ezhava community was a votebank of the Marxist party. Christians and Muslims have already forsaken them. Foreseeing trouble in the future if the Ezhava community also leaves the Marxist alliance, they are trying to pressurise Natesan”, said Shri Chari.

The Janmabhoomi issue dated 18-6-02 carried a report of Shri Chari's conversation with Vellapalli Natesan in which the latter vehemently denied the Malayala Manorama report of his contemplating legal action against Organiser.

Anyway the controversy, although futile, has given only added impetus to the RSS-SNDP cooperation.
